Ep27: Lama Palden – Mystic of Sukhasiddhi – Guru Viking Interviews

In this episode I talk with Lama Palden, author and Lama in both the Shangpa and Karma Kagyu lineages of Tibetan Buddhism.

We learn about Lama Palden’s childhood memories of past reincarnations, and how a spontaneous experience of Jesus healed her of early trauma.

We hear stories of powerful personal encounters with some of 20th century’s most renowned lamas, including Kalu Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and the 16th Karmapa.

We also explore details of Lama Palden’s 3 year retreat under the guidance of her guru Kalu Rinpoche, and explore dire warnings from Tibetan masters about the future of humanity and what we can do to help.

LAMA PALDEN ON ACCESSING AND CULTIVATING COMPASSION

From “The Gateway to Compassion

The gateway to compassion and loving kindness is to be able to feel our own pain, and the pain of others. If we are able to open in this way, our hearts can melt, and the healing salve of compassion can anoint all our wounds. In this way we can move beyond our complacency. At this time, we need to acknowledge our own hatred and aggression, too. This requires mindfulness of the activities of our body, speech, and mind. We now have yet another opportunity to examine our lives, values, and commitments. Where do we put our time, energy, and resources?

Self-Love and Compassion

By Lama Palden Drolma |  june 6, 2019 by administrator, posted in books, buddhism, new age, reviews

Love on Every Breath is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana meditation from the Shangpa lineage that combines breath, awareness, imagination, and an energetic transformation process. The meditation brings all these components together in a powerful way in order to open our hearts, to reveal and cultivate our kindness, love, compassion, and wisdom. In Tibetan, this is called the Extraordinary Tonglen, since it uses special techniques of Vajrayana to transform suffering. The Tibetan word tonglen is composed of two words — tong means “giving or sending,” and len means “receiving or taking.”

Practicing Altruism, Compassion, and Love Bring Happiness and Stress Relief

By Lama Palden Drolma

Modern neuroscience has now found that altruism brings us happiness in addition to being a stress reliever. This mirrors Buddhist teachings. The Prajnaparamita teaching on the innate purity of all sentient beings and of the infinite universe directly counters the Christian doctrine of original sin.

Love on Every Breath: Tonglen Meditation for Transforming Pain into Joy

AUGUST 23, 2019 |  POSTED BY DHANANJAY JOSHI

Novato, Calif.: New World Library, 2019. 215 pp., paper, $16.95.

More than thirty years ago, I was listening to a speech by Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield on lovingkindness. He told a story about a Tibetan lama named Kalu Rinpoche, who was visiting an aquarium. He would go to each tank and tap gently to get the attention of the fish and say the mantra of compassion and lovingkindness: Om mani padme hum. The story moved me deeply, and since then, every time I go near a fish tank (I have one at home), I practice the chant. I have even done it for the orchids blooming on my windowsill.

Love on Every Breath

TUESDAY, JUNE 04, 2019  |  POSTED BY S. BELL

I’ve noticed “felt sense” being used a lot amongst Buddhists. I read that phrase first in Eugene Gendlin’s book Focusing.

One thing I like about this book is that she talked about how others suffering can enter our body and reside there if not processed. By inviting suffering in and metabolizing it, the negative energy is diffused. You visualize a vajra which is the indestructible absorber of suffering smoke.

Maybe you’ve heard of Tonglen meditation. It’s an ancient, very powerful way to practice compassion and love for self and others. Usually, we’re told to breathe in another person’s suffering or pain and then breathe out compassion and love. Love on Every Breath goes further than this.
